Weaving Connections
A Documentary-Inspired Craft & Community Program

About the Film
~This tie was the one my husband wore when we got engaged. ~
Weaving Connections begins with Weaving, a short documentary directed by Hsuan Yu Pan that follows artist Ludmila Christeseva and Ukrainian refugee women who use art and craft to express sisterhood and resilience. Inspired by this collaboration, Christeseva created participatory activities such as Roses of Ties, where recycled neckties are woven into roses—symbols of remembrance, care, and human connection.

Program Format
~This tie was the one my grandfather wore every day. ~
The program combines a short film screening with a hands-on weaving activity. After watching Weaving, participants create their own Roses of Ties using recycled neckties. The process is easy to follow and requires minimal materials, making the program accessible and adaptable for museums, community spaces, workplaces, and cultural events.

Audience Experience
~This tie is a symbol I keep to remember my late partner.~
Through film, craft, and conversation, Weaving Connections creates a welcoming space for reflection and dialogue. The simple act of weaving invites participants to share stories, honor memories, and build connections across cultures and communities.
